Flu Jab in Andalusia: Starts 1 October, and When It’s Your Turn

Andalusia’s flu jab campaign opens on 1 October 2026, together with the Covid vaccine, in age order: young children and pregnant women first, everyone aged 60 and over from 21 October. Antonio Sanz, the Junta’s vice-president for health, set out the calendar in parliament on 24 September.

Key facts at a glance

  • Start: 1 October 2026 for children from 6 months to just under 5 years, pregnant women and care home residents
  • Order: 80 and over on 7 October, 70 and over on 14 October, 60 and over on 21 October
  • New: the high-dose vaccine now starts at 75 instead of 80, and three and four-year-olds get a nasal spray at school

Flu jab in Andalusia: the Junta’s calendar

The rollout comes in four waves. Each week a new group joins. It starts on 1 October with children from 6 months to just under 5 years, anyone aged 5 to 17 with a medical condition, pregnant women, and residents and staff of care homes and disability centres. On 7 October it moves on to people aged 80 and over, plus the severely dependent at home and their carers.

If you are 70 or older, your turn comes on 14 October. Adults under 60 with a risk condition join on the same day. From 21 October the invitation covers everyone aged 60 and over, along with police, firefighters, prison staff and people who work with animals. The Junta’s announcement lists them, and El Español reported the same dates.

What it means for you

1. The jab comes through the public system

Vaccination runs through the public health service, the Servicio Andaluz de Salud. You need a Spanish health card for it, and our guide to the Tarjeta Sanitaria shows how to get one. No social security number yet? Then that is where you start.

2. A nasal spray for three and four-year-olds

Children in the first two years of infant school, the three and four-year-olds, get the flu vaccine as a nasal spray at school. No needle involved. Our guide to the Spanish school system explains the year groups.

3. The stronger vaccine now starts at 75

The high-dose flu vaccine now starts at 75, down from 80. For care home residents and people aged 12 and over with a weakened immune system, Andalusia uses the protein-based Covid vaccine Bimervax from Hipra. Planning to retire here? Our overview of retiring to Spain lists the requirements.

Not everyone starts in the public system. Many arrive on a non-lucrative or digital nomad visa with private health insurance, because the visa application asks for it.

Our recommendation: International health insurance from Genki

Genki is a Cologne-based provider of international health insurance for people who live abroad rather than travel. You apply online, and the policy is built for long stays. Check the terms against what your visa office asks for before you sign.

What to check before 1 October

And if you are healthy and under 60? You are not on the calendar at all. Everyone else should check now that their health card is valid. According to the Junta’s vaccination page, you book an appointment at the counter of your centro de salud or by calling Salud Responde on 955 54 50 60. On private cover only?
